New
Braunfels is a treasure of the Texas Hill Country.
Here
you will find both natural and man-made recreational
attractions, a year-round schedule of interesting events,
and great places to stay, such as bed and breakfasts,
condos, and resorts.
 Water-lovers
travel to New Braunfels to enjoy the Comal River, Guadalupe
River, and Schlitterbahn, the world-famous water park. Just
outside of New Braunfels you will find Canyon Lake, Lake
Dunlap, and Lake McQueeney. The
Comal River, located near Historic Downtown New Braunfels,
is perfect for an easy going day of "tubing."
Rafting and canoeing enthusiasts take to the Guadalupe
River, with its whitewater excitement.
History
buffs can find plenty to see and do here. New Braunfels,
a town settled by German immigrants in 1845, has guarded and
preserved much of its history. The Sophienburg Museum has
historical exhibits and knowledgeable hosts that can answer
your questions. In
Historic Downtown New Braunfels, many buildings have been
restored and inhabited by restaurants, coffeehouses, and
shops. Walk around downtown and the surrounding older
neighborhoods, and you can see historic landmark houses,
along with other beautiful houses that homeowners have
restored.
Music
lovers will want to see the historic town of Gruene, and
the world-famous Gruene Hall, where artists such as George
Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, and Hal Ketchum
performed in the early stages of their career. Gruene Hall
features top name entertainment, especially in the Country
and Americana genres. New
Braunfels has been emerging as a music town over the past
decade, thanks to Gruene Hall and the local radio station
KNBT 92.1 FM, which has been rated the number one Americana
station in recent years. Around town you can find several
bars, taverns, and even restaurants that feature excellent
live entertainment.
